Writer Mentoring

Whether you're working on your first script or your fiftieth, it can be difficult to judge your own work.

You may have a script that's almost ready but not quite there. You may be struggling with story, character or structure, or wondering how to get your work in front of the right people.

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience developing, producing and commissioning comedy, I offer one-to-one mentoring for writers looking to strengthen their work and better understand the television industry.

As the BBC's first Controller of Comedy Commissioning and later Head of Comedy at Sky, I spent much of my career reading scripts, identifying talent and helping projects find their way to the screen.

"Working with Lucy transformed both my script and my confidence as a writer. Her feedback was honest, detailed and always encouraging. She pushed me to be braver, funnier and more focused, while sharing invaluable industry insight. Lucy is the firework every writer needs behind them."

Tash, Comedy Writer

Every writer gets stuck at some point. My role is to help you move your work forward with greater clarity and confidence.

What We Can Cover

  • Script feedback and development

  • Story, structure and character

  • Developing new ideas

  • Understanding the television industry, demystifying the myths

  • Broadcaster and production company expectations

  • Agents, producers and routes into the industry

  • Building confidence and maintaining momentum

How It Works

We begin with a short discovery call to discuss your goals and what you would like to get from mentoring.

Sessions take place on Zoom and are tailored to your individual needs. If you're sharing a script, I'll read it in advance and provide detailed feedback, helping you identify priorities and agree clear next steps.

If you have a script you'd like feedback on, an idea you're trying to develop or questions about the industry, I'd be delighted to arrange an introductory conversation.
